Speed lowered on Boneo Road

In a welcomed move, Vic Roads has decided to lower a dangerous stretch of road near Cape Schanck.

New speed signs have been erected directing motorists to drop their speed from 100kmp to 60kmp along a section of Bone Road.

A popular area for walkers heading to Bushrangers Bay, visitors using the roadside car park on Boneo Road became a safety issue that needed to be addressed.

An article, posted on this website last March, was critical of the high speed permitted along Boneo Road, a scenic tourist route made up of of hairpin bends through hilly ravines and gullies.

Could this be another indication that Victoria’s traffic authority is beginning to recognise unrealistic speed limits in high-risk accident areas?

Despite these changes being well received, it is unclear why news reports suggest the new 60kmp zone will only remain in force until September 2020.

Vic Roads and Public Transport Victoria has merged to become know as the Department of Transport. The new department officially took effect on 1 January 2020.
