The Ross Trust withdraws quarry proposal

11 Dec ‘21

Following a well fought battle, the Peninsula Preservation Group is celebrating after receiving word that Hill View Quarries (part of the RE Ross Trust) has withdrawn a permit application to the Minister for Planning.

The reopening of the old disused quarry in Boundary Road Dromana was also fiercely opposed by the greater community.

A statement on the ‘Save Arthurs Seat - Peninsula Preservation’ twitter account says,

“The Ross Trust has backed away from plans to open an old quarry on the Mornington Peninsula. The plan was to run the old quarry and the surrounding large bushland property into a 107 acre 620ft deep quarry pit on the north face of Arthurs Seat.”

This is the second big win for Peninsula Preservation. Seven years ago when it opposed the conversion of the disused site into a rubbish tip, also proposed by Hill View Quarries.

The Committee for Peninsula congratulates members of the Peninsula Preservation Group for their unrelenting campaign to stop a proposal that would clearly have detrimental affects on the natural environment and public realm of Arthurs Seat.
